Honda Motor Co Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:HMC) Has Recalled 106,000 MDS SUVs Citing Pulley Flaw

USA-based vehicle manufacturer, Honda Motor Co Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:HMC) has issued a recall for 106,000 MDS SUVs through the Acura brand.

The automobile company claimed that it issued out the recall for the MDS SUV vehicles sold in 2014 and 2015. The firm claims that the reason for the callback is a flaw in the air conditioner clutch drive bolt that can be subjected to breakage or being lose. This could make a pulley drop or fall under the vehicle.

Honda reported that the problem was identified through warranty claims. So far, no injuries or accidents have been reported in relation to the pulley falling off. Acura announced that it will begin notifying the vehicle owners towards the end of July. Owners of the specific vehicle model affected will be required to take their cars to the nearest dealers so they can have them inspected and fixed at no cost.

Honda Motor Co Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:HMC) has also recalled 43,000 2014 Acura RLX sedans from 2014 and 2015. The recall was to allow the firm to fix an issue with the safety belt. This is in line with the company’s safety improvement campaigns targeting nine of its vehicle models. 182,000 vehicle Honda models from 2005 and 2006 have also been affected by a problem in the vehicle stability system. The company claimed that the flaw could lead to a situation where the vehicles accidentally apply brakes without the input of the driver.

There was also a recall for the 2003 and 2004 Acura MDX and Honda Odyssey models requiring an inspection of the airbag deployment system. The company claimed that there was a malfunction that could result in the accidental deployment of the airbags. Quite a few other firms issued recalls for various models from their assembly lines.

The competitive automotive industry has been under the watchful eye of whistleblowers, and none of the firms want to take any chances against the possibility if lawsuits. The industry is also shifting towards more smart technology for future models.
