The much anticipated update on Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Model S will be unveiled on March 19. This move would surely end anxiety amongst owners of the Model S as they will soon have access to over the air software update. The EV Company’s new updates will benefit drivers of Model S, who will now be able to travel farther without fear of their car running out of power. For drivers of EV range, anxiety has long been an issue; even Mayor Bloomberg of New York made a big commitment in 2013. Then the mayor had committed to easing range anxiety in that city by equipping the city with 10k charging points.
Even though, there is not much clarity on the type of software; the company plans to leave customers to assuming. This new move by Tesla represents a shift from the company’s nature of doing business. Tesla is known for depending on the upgrade to its hardware to prolong the mileage of its cars. Speculations are ripe that this could yet be the official launch of its torque sleep upgrade. The torque sleep feature allows users to rest one of the drive units when it is not in use. Additionally, this will allow the torque unit to sleep when it is not needed and immediately wake when a car is accelerated. This represents the opposite of the much-maligned start up of engines on the stop-start hybrid. These features on the stop-start hybrid are fairly slow and uncomfortable.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), also confirmed that all Model S cars will be upgraded, news that is surely exciting electronic car enthusiasts. Seeing that the company did not release particular details about the software upgrade, observers have tried to guess the company’s moves. These range from; navigation that is smarter, optimization of the cars’ batteries, to a power saving feature.
