Ascena Retail Group Inc (NASDAQ:ASNA) has announced receiving a score of 100% in the 2018 Corporate Equality Index of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The Corporate Equality Index is a bench marking tool used mainly on corporate practices and tools related to the equality of work of gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual and queer( LGBTQ) at workplace.
Ascena Retail Group, a leading retailer of women merchandise and which is participating in the campaign for the first time, is part of the 609 employers who recorded the highest score in this year’s edition of the campaign. Additionally, the company won the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality” distinction.
Some of the criteria used in CEI rating include equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers as well as their families, non-discrimination policies, accountability policies to promote inclusion of LGBTQ accountability and competence, internal education and public commitment to promote equality of LGBTQ.
Ascena has instituted a long-standing commitment to promote inclusion and diversity at all levels of the organization. According to David Jaffe, ascena’s Chairman and CEO, he was motivated by his mother Roslyn Jaffe who used to host shopping events for transgender community. He added that his mother was well aware of the importance of inclusion and diversity to the success of a business. David added that the company is being recognized by HRC for a culture which it started several years ago. He added that company has a well entrenched diversity of 64,000 associates which makes it stronger, united and in a better position to offer best-in-class experiences and fashion for all girls and women.
Jaffe noted that by being declared the ‘Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality’ by the HRC is a clear manifestation of the commitment that the company has instituted as well as the culture of inclusion and diversity that the company has put in place. The focus of HRC is well in line with the company’s commitment to entrench and promote corporate social responsibility as well as inclusion and diversity.
