Atlantic Council And Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) Present Report On Security For Networked Medical Devices

A new report was recently released jointly by Intel Security of the Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) along with the Atlantic Council. In the report, it was mentioned that by building the security from the outset, it was possible that the networked medical devices associated with IoT became highly valuable. The report entitled The Healthcare Internet of Things: Rewards and Risks highlighted the importance of Internet of Things in relation to the devices above.

In report, the Atlantic Council and Intel Security unveiled that such devices were useful in improving the quality and standard of life, as well as medical outcomes and fitness. One estimate of such networked medical devices was capable of saving whooping $63 billion costs of the healthcare sector over the term of 15 years. This included a reduced 15-30% hospital equipment amount as well.

Also, the report explored the societal opportunities along with the security challenges. In the report, the two bodies recommended a few suggestions for the medical professionals, regulators as well as the entire industry. The major security issues associated with these devices and networks were linked to communication technology, firmware, and software.

In context to the privacy and security of data, the report also indicated a few spheres that should be looked. These included intentional device tampering, accidental failures, widespread disruptions and most importantly, stealing of personal data.

Suggestions for security of networked medical devices

For this purpose, the report suggests in-built security right at the outset. Also, it is suggested that an all-inclusive set of the security standards was essential for such devices, in order to address the hidden risks.

The report highlighted increased collaboration in terms of public-private and private-private sectors for the purpose of improvisation. Prior and regulatory approval for such networked medical devices is also suggested in the report.
