Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) To Stabilize Working Hours: Minimum Wages Increased To $9.00

Much to the delight of employees in Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT), the discounted gift store company has announced its intentions to bring in a stabilized working shifts for its employees. If was after considering the inconvenience caused towards them because of the erratic working shifts, which is nothing new in the United States. However, it could be very much possible that the stabilization is intended for the most experienced employees in the beginning, and they would have the same shifts on the same days, the company said on Thursday.

In a recent study, almost 60% of workers in the US work on an hourly basis. Erratic working schedules also hamper other social activities or maybe a second job too. Most of the hourly workers do go to school and erratic working hours hamper such jobs also. Such regulation will especially help workers, who have less resource to handle the disruptions, which arise in day to day lives as well. A fact pointed out by Claire McKenna, a policy analyst at the National Employment Law Project.

The announcement will be like an icing on the cake since the discounted chain of stores company also announced its intentions of paying its employees well above the minimum wage. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) will pay its employees $9.00 per hour instead of the minimum wage of $7.25, which has been laid by the Federal government. The U.S. President, Barrack Obama, also called Congress to increase the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. The Republicans argued against it citing reasons of unknown adverse effects it may have in future.
