Nokia Oyj (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) Plans To Launch New Product In February

Reports have emerged that Nokia Oyj (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) is planning to launch a new smart phone that has a super-sized screen and is powered by Android 7.0 Nougat. The company could reveal the product in February 25.

It took more than a year to have the first Nokia tablet powered by Android. The oncoming awesome phone could be great news for the lovers of Nokia products. The chief product officer at the HMD Global tweeted on Thursday last week that Nokia is about to launch the new device during the Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest phone conference that would conducted from Feb 26 to March 1 in Barcelona.

The details of the new device reveal that there is a sporting of 18.4 in screen – which is bigger than most modern laptops. The reports have stirred a lot of discussions across the social media platforms with many people speculating that the company could be planning to emerge with an awesome product soon after going underground for some time.

Developing Nokia phones that are powered by Android is part of the HMD’s strategy to grab its competitive position. For a decade, the Nokia phones were once a top brand across the globe, before the introduction of iOS and Adnroid that surged the market in popularity thus killing Nokia’s renowned mobile software.

When Microsoft bought the company and then sold their rights to create Nokia-branded phones that use Windows software, the HMD Global grabbed the license. Though HMD Global functions independently form the Nokia Corporation, their phones are normally advertised on the Nokia website.

The company has not revealed exactly what’s in store and has declined to comment on the reports; Nokia is expected to pull out their big guns to compete stiffly with its rivals including Samsung which also produces phones powered by Android.
